Owens Corning Platinum Preferred — invitation-only top tier
Owens Corning's contractor program has multiple tiers — Preferred, Preferred Plus, Platinum, and Platinum Preferred. Only Platinum Preferred is invitation-only and unlocks the Platinum Protection warranty. The names are similar enough that contractors sometimes conflate them in marketing, so homeowners benefit from asking which specific tier a contractor holds.
The Owens Corning tier names are similar on purpose, and it's easy to confuse them. Platinum Preferred is the top tier, reserved for contractors Owens Corning personally invites — typically based on installation history, reputation, and business practices. It is the only tier that unlocks the Platinum Protection warranty (extended workmanship coverage backed by Owens Corning, with the specific term depending on the product and installation). Lower tiers — Platinum, Preferred Plus, and Preferred — have different benefits and reduced warranty access. When a contractor says "Owens Corning certified," the right follow-up is asking specifically which tier. The jump from Preferred to Platinum Preferred is significant, both in the certification bar and in the warranty ceiling. As with all manufacturer certifications, certification is a prerequisite for enhanced warranty access but not a guarantee of installation quality on any specific job. Because the top tier is invitation-only, a contractor cannot simply apply on their own — Owens Corning decides who enters based on a direct review. This means Platinum Preferred carries a different signal texture than tiers a contractor can apply into on merit alone. Verification is available on owenscorning.com's Find a Contractor tool.
