HARCA — Houston Area Roofing Contractors Association

HARCA (Houston Area Roofing Contractors Association) is a Houston-regional trade association for roofing and waterproofing contractors. Contractor membership requires at least 1 year of principal roofing or waterproofing business and Board of Directors approval. HARCA membership is a Houston-local signal, not a statewide or competency-based certification.

HARCA is the Houston-area counterpart to RCAT — a voluntary trade association specifically for the Houston roofing and waterproofing community, not a statewide certification or an exam-based credential. Contractor membership requires the principal business to have been engaged in roofing and/or waterproofing for at least one year, and applications are reviewed by the Board of Directors. HARCA also offers an Associate Membership for manufacturers, suppliers, architects, and consultants who serve member contractors. Because HARCA is regional, it carries particular weight for Houston-specific homeowners who prioritize local roots and community standing — a HARCA member has chosen to be part of the Houston roofing community rather than operating from out of state. Membership itself is not a competency test (HARCA does not require exams), but the combination of a one-year in-business minimum, Board approval, and Houston principal-business requirement makes it structurally hard for transient post-storm operators to carry. Homeowners weighing this signal often combine it with RCAT residential certification and Years in Business for a layered read on local legitimacy.
