CertainTeed residential shingle lines — Landmark (flagship), Northgate/Landmark ClimateFlex (Class 4), Presidential (designer)

CertainTeed's residential line runs Landmark (the flagship architectural — dual-layer with MaxDef color and a SureStart non-prorated warranty period, NOT Class 4), the ClimateFlex SBS-modified family for impact (Northgate ClimateFlex premium and Landmark ClimateFlex value-tier are UL 2218 Class 4 and may qualify for a Texas insurance discount), and Presidential (the designer line — Presidential Shake TL is unusual in being both designer-tier and Class 4). The enhanced SureStart PLUS warranty runs through SELECT ShingleMaster certification.

CertainTeed's line follows the three tiers with one notable twist at the designer end. The flagship is Landmark — CT's most-installed architectural shingle, a dual-layer fiberglass build with MaxDef color blends for deeper shadow lines; standard Landmark is limited-lifetime material with a SureStart non-prorated period (CertainTeed covers 100% material and labor on defective shingles during that window) and is NOT impact-rated. For hail, CertainTeed's impact line is built on ClimateFlex, an SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) polymer modification that adds the flexibility for UL 2218 Class 4: Northgate ClimateFlex is the premium tier (110 mph standard wind warranty, upgradable to 160 mph WindProven) and Landmark ClimateFlex is the value-tier impact SKU sharing the same technology; both are the lines that may qualify a Texas home for an insurance impact discount (confirm with your agent; cross-reference D1-002). The designer tier is Presidential — and Presidential Shake TL is one of the few shingles that is both a triple-laminate wood-shake designer profile and UL 2218 Class 4 impact-rated, with Grand Manor as the slate-aesthetic sibling. The enhanced SureStart PLUS warranty runs through the SELECT ShingleMaster contractor certification (3-Star/4-Star/5-Star tiers, the top extending workmanship coverage; cross-reference D7-008, D9-004). What to ask on a CertainTeed quote: standard Landmark or a ClimateFlex line — only the ClimateFlex family (and Presidential Shake TL) is Class 4 — and the contractor's SELECT ShingleMaster status if SureStart PLUS matters. Cross-reference D1-009 for the general comparison framework.
